    Our Year-end Getaway

We spent the last few days of 2008 in a city about an hour and a half from where we live. The hotel we stayed in is called The Plaza. It was our second time staying there. There really isn't anything fancy about this hotel. It is older and doesn't look like much from the outside. But it is very clean, quiet, and has a well-maintained building and pool area. This time we got to stay in the tower. Our room was very spacious with a king and a queen sized beds. We also had a mini fridge, microwave, a whirlpool and other amenities which made our stay more pleasant and comfortable.

One of the things that I did as soon as we were checked-in was to look for exit signs closest to our room. This is one thing that I learned from one of the seminars we attended on fire safety and that kind of stuff. It is very important that you know where the exits are in case of emergency. More so when you are not familiar with the building.

    Paternity Test

Have you ever seen those lousy TV shows where two parties are fighting and arguing each other about who the father of the child is? The fighting and accusations go on throughout the program. The show pays for a paternity test to be done and the grand finale of the show is when they reveal the results of the paternity test.

I realize that in the real world, a paternity test might be necessary in some unfortunate circumstances. But these TV shows make a mockery of people's problems. The people that agree to go on these shows seem to be willing to make fools of themselves for their fifteen-minute of fame. The whole thing makes me sick.

"I Want To Be A Doctor"

A few weeks ago, we watched a comedy show on DVD. There was this comedian who shared about a daddy and his 4-year old son. Daddy just came home from work. Son met him by the door and was so excited about something. Then he said, " Daddy, I want to be a doctor when I grow up ". Daddy was soooo happy and said " That is great, Son ! " . He was so proud of his son for having such a big dream at his age. Then the boy paused for a while and looked at Daddy with a grin and said, " or a dinosaur ! ". Daddy almost collapsed laughing !

My son is kind of like that at times. One time he would want to be an astronaut. A few minutes later, a lion. He would growl really loud trying to scare everybody. I love it! It's one of the joys of parenthood.

    Small Business

I was on my way to pick up some groceries and I heard this famous radio talk show host talking about what a good time it is to start a small business. I thought she must be kidding! With the economy as bad as it is, how could it be a good time to make such a big move? Anyway, there were several callers who gave their opinions and asked her questions. She seemed to know what she was talking about.

Anyhow, if you are looking into starting a small business,  auto parts franchises would be something to look into. We have friends who are into this franchise and are doing really well. Just some ideas here to consider.

    What A Sweet Big Bro

My son, Josiah, is so much into legos lately. He has created lots of very interesting projects with them. Every time he's got a new creation, he would show it to all of us, including his 0ne-year old baby sister. In the picture, he was explaining to Mahalia what he made and all that stuff. The little girl was so interested in everything that big brother told her. I just love seeing these two little ones get along really good. We're sooo blesseed!!!

It Is Where I Wanted It To Be

For a long time, we had our big plasma TV that we inherited from my husband's younger brother at the center of the living room. I did not like it there at all. It makes the living room smaller and crowded. Hubby thinks it is better for it to be placed there since we don't have a good tv furniture. It was just on top of a coffee table. Besides, it gets warm where I wanted it to be in the winter time when the fireplace is on. Yet, I wanted it out of the center of the living room! Finally, I convinced him to move it to the corner where our old tv used to be. We still need a good tv furniture though. But, that is not a priority right now. What is important to me is that I got my living room back! Yippey!!!!

A Broken Arm with A Beautiful Smile

December 27 to the 29th, we had a reservation at the Plaza hotel in Eau Claire for a little family getaway. Since the check-in time was 3 pm,  we decided to go to the Mall. The guys went shopping for swimsuits to use in the hotel pool while Mahalia and I were window shopping. They found what they were looking for right away. So, they headed for the kids play area. They probably had been there for 10 minutes or so when Josiah fell down from a helicopter and hurt his arm. We took him to the clinic. It was Saturday. Thank God they had Urgent Care. Sure enough, Josiah broke his arm! But guess what? That did not ruin his vacation. Sure, he wasn't able to go swimming but he still had lots of fun being with us and playing with his legos. Thank God for giving him grace!

    Bye-bye High heeled Shoes

Way back when I was still in the habit of wearing 3 to 4 inches high heeled shoes, I got some kind of pain in my feet, especially in the heel and arch areas. I hear ya!  It was crazy wearing those killer shoes all day long while teaching. But, it was fun at first and all my friends were doing it. There were nights that I literally stayed awake because my feet and legs bothered me so much. After a while, I finally gave up and settled for good walking shoes while working at the school. Did I get  Plantar Fasciitis then? Who knows? I never had my feet checked. The pain went away on its own. Since then, I've never worn such kind of shoes.
